Capitalizing Nouns

CAPITALIZING OTHER KINDS OF PROPER NOUNS

Rule -1:  

Capitalize the names of races, religions, nationalities, and languages.

          Examples:

a.     The Catholic church is holding a fancy fete.

b.   The works of Indian artists were on display at the Indian   Cultural Center.

Rule – 2: 

Capitalize words referring to God and religious scriptures.

          Examples: 

          The Bible          The Bagavath Gita         The Tora              Allah

          Lord Shiva           Jesus

Rule-3:  
Capitalize the names of clubs, organizations, and business firms.

          Examples:

a.     Arun is the founder of Lahari Technologies.

b.     We donated some rice and sugar to the Lions Club

c.     Mother is a member of the Women’s Forum.

EXERCISE (Using capitalization correctly):

1.     Several Russians doctors visited our hospital

2.     The jewish writer criticized the policies of the nazis.

3.     The Christians follow the teachings of jesus.

4.   An exhibit of African paintings were displayed at the congo     academy of arts.

5.     After the tsunami, the red cross and salvation army offered help   to government of Japan.
