USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS

Possessive pronouns are used to show ownership.  Possessive pronouns have special forms.

            Singular possessive:  My, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its.

            Plural Possessive:    our, ours, your, yours, their, theirs.

Possessive pronouns never use apostrophes.  Do not confuse  - its - (possessive pronoun) with - it’s -, a contraction meaning ‘it is’.

Example:  The dog cleaned its paw (possessive pronoun)

                   It is 5 pm now (contraction)

EXERCISE:

Identify possessive pronouns.

1.      This pen is mine, not yours.

2.      My cell number has been changed.

3.      His car is the one on the right.

4.      How far away is his company from yours?

5.      The soldiers set up their tent in the open ground.
