NOUNS USED AS SUBJECTS :
A noun may be used as the
subject of a sentence. The subject of a
sentence tells who or what is being talked about.
Examples: 1. Sheila strolled around the garden quietly.
2. Thousands gathered in the park.
-- Sheila = subject and strolled = verb
-- Thousands = subject and gathered =
verb
Sometimes the subject is not
placed next to the verb. Other words may
separate them. Occasionally the subject
is at the end of the sentence.
Example: 1. Sheila always stolled around the garden
quietly.
2. Thousands
of fans gathered in the park.

A noun used as a direct
object receives the action of the verb.
Example: Gary threw the ball. (What did Gary throw? The ball)
Alex saw the
dentist. (Whom did Alex see? The dentist)
We have a
surprise for you. (What do we have? A surprise)
